Stand Up Paddle Boarding (better known as SUP) combines elements of surfing and kayaking in a fun, easy to do activity suited to all. You can stand, kneel, sit or lay down on the board to paddle and enjoy your experience.

Santo Tomas offers the perfect location for a SUPer fun and incredible SUP experience. The sea is normally very calm with small waves which makes for an easy place to paddle (weather can be unpredictable and sometimes larger waves and a rougher sea when windy or stormy and other times the water can be glass with no waves at all). The water is warm most of the year which is very pleasant if you fall in the water or choose to jump in.

If you are a fervent of water sports, there are plenty of health reasons for taking up paddle boarding. Five benefits of paddle boarding include:

  • Improved balance. Standup paddle boarding requires core stability and strength in the legs to avoid falling over. As a result, this exercise increases focus on other activities such as studying or working.
  • Full body workout. People who are keen to maintain a healthy exercise regimen will benefit from regular paddle boarding. This sport engages the arms, legs, back, and shoulder muscles to maintain balance and hence, well-toned muscles.
  • Boosting strength. After paddle boarding for a few hours, you will feel soreness throughout the body, but this is a great sign. The more you paddle, the more your muscles will endure, and exhaustion will become a thing of the past.
  • Curbs stress. Water has a therapeutic effect on the mind and body as one glides through and upholds their stroking rhythm. Eventually, the stress starts to dissipate, and your mind is free from whatever was stealing your joy.
  • Summer glow. Paddle boarding is an excellent activity to help you maintain a healthy summer glow. A few hours in the sun gives you the much-needed boost of Vitamin D. Be sure, though, to use sunscreen so an unwanted sunburn does not rob you of your fun in the sun.
